Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Sullivan's Island vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Sullivan's Island area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Sullivan's Island visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Central Location
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Sullivan's Island destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
